Join us for a day of making and creating at 1818 Farms, Saturday, June 29th from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. At the end of the workshop, each guest will leave the farm with their own beautifully arranged farm grown bouquet, pressed flower clay trinket dish and bundle dye scarf showcasing botanically derived colors.
We will begin our day of artistry under the 1818 Farms pavilion overlooking our flower field. Guests will participate in a popular Bloom Stroll and Bouquet Workshop where they will learn the elements needed to build a balanced bouquet and stroll the field. Each guest will create a large arrangement in a beautiful vessel that can be taken home after the event.
Following the Bloom Stroll, guests will visit The Cottage at 1818 farms where they will explore the beauty of pressed flowers. During this portion of the workshop, they will learn the step by step process of making a unique clay trinket dish that is adorned with pressed flowers. While the pieces of art are baking, Natasha will discuss the various pressing methods and equipment that she uses to achieve the most vibrant flower colors. Guests will also have the opportunity to assist in the pressing process. Once the dishes are baked/cured, they will be sealed and edged with gold paint.
Before the afternoon session begins, the group will have a relaxing lunch at The Cottage. Here they can get to know the other participants in the group and enjoy the slow pace of historic Mooresville.
After lunch, participants will gather under the 1818 Farms Pavillon and immerse in the art of bundle dyeing. First, we will discuss the scouring and mordanting process required to prepare fabric for dyeing. Sample textiles will be presented to the group to demonstrate the various colors that can be achieved by using various elements from nature. The 1818 Team will demonstrate various textile folding and rolling methods and their resulting designs. Next, each participant will design, roll and steam a scarf that reflects his or her individual style. Once the scarf is steamed and cooled, it will be unbundled and hung to dry. During the drying process, we will demonstrate the appropriate washing method after the scarf has cured. We will send a liquid ph neutral soap with each participant so that the scarf can be washed at home after the curing process.
We hope you can join us for a day filled with artistry, nature, and camaraderie at 1818 Farms. This is a workshop that I have wanted to host for many years. I can’t wait to see what you will create using our beautiful blooms.
Space is limited to 18 participants per workshop.
