Bundle Dye Workshop at 1818 Farms

Join us, June 23 @ 5:30 pm, under the 1818 Farms Pavilion for an immersive hands-on experience in the art of bundle dyeing. This workshop will guide you through the process of transforming a habotai silk scarf using natural elements to create stunning, one-of-a-kind patterns. At the end of the workshop, you will be taking home a scarf that will provide you a lifetime of enjoyment and pride.

The 1818 Farms team will demonstrate multiple textile folding and rolling techniques, highlighting how different methods influence the final design. Then, it’s your turn—each participant will design, roll, and steam their own scarf, creating a unique reflection of personal style.

After steaming and cooling, you’ll carefully unbundle your scarf and hang it to dry.
While your scarf dries we will discuss the essential scouring and mordanting steps needed to prepare silk fabric for dyeing.  During this time, we’ll demonstrate the proper washing method to ensure the longevity of your design. Each participant will also receive liquid pH-neutral soap to use at home after the curing process.

You will leave the workshop with the scarf you design. The scarf will need to cure for approximately a week after the workshop and be hand washed according to provided instructions.

Whether you’re a seasoned textile artist or a beginner eager to explore natural dyeing, this workshop offers a beautiful way to create, learn, and connect with nature.
