Farm Fresh Eggs
I am ready to sell our farm-fresh eggs from our free-range chickens – $4.00 per dozen. They are as delicious as they are pretty.
Yesterday my dad brought five more chickens to join our flock. These are big gorgeous Black Australorp hens that are champion egg layers and lay beautiful dark golden brown eggs. They were bred in Australia from the English Black Orpington stock (we have the sweet Buff Orpington hens) and are just as calm and friendly. Their soft glossy black plumage has hints of green and purple in the sunlight.
Today was worming and hoof trimming day. I mixed up the proper dosage for each animal and medicated them with a big syringe. Shirley held the lambs and goats while I trimmed their hooves. All could sit in her lap except Lulu and Buttercup, the two chubby cream-colored lambs. Shirley held them sitting on their bottoms leaning up against her legs.
It’s a lot of work keeping everyone healthy and happy.
